July 26, 27, and 28 “Drawing and Painting the Figure”:
Amy Sudarsky, the juror for last year’s Beyond Likeness exhibit through RNAC, is teaching a three-day workshop live at The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck. Although Amy focused on the self-portrait through Zoom classes during Covid, we can now branch out to the entire figure, applying Amy’s same patient and methodical approaches to: gesture, planar structure, value and expressive possibilities. Those using paint can continue to explore monochrome or full color. There will be nude models, male for day one, female on the next two days. If you are painting, bring the materials you are comfortable with and a drop cloth for spills. Since this is an indoor workshop we trust that those participating have been vaccinated or will be prepared to wear a mask for the session. Thank you for helping to keep our community healthy.

18”x24″ drawing pad (preferably all-purpose paper but newsprint in fine, too)
Conte crayons– medium softness
Charcoal pencil–4B
Kneaded eraser
Painting materials of your choice; drop cloth

July 29 “Small Group Critiques”
Teacher Amy Sudarsky will hold two small-group critiques for students and others focusing on the figure and the portrait. Bring up to five works for feedback from Amy and the group. Explain your process and articulate where you think you need help.

This critique will take place at the Goetemann Artist Residency Studio.
Group 1: July 29 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

July 30 “All About Hands”
Why are hands so hard to draw? Because they’re hard to draw. Fortunately, artist Amy Sudarsky loves to draw hands and is really good at telling us how to do the same. In this two-hour intensive, Amy will gently guide us through the basics of gesture, basic planes and just enough anatomy to up our game considerably. Demonstrations galore!
